In many ways, it’s a wonderful time to be a writer: writing jobs are plentiful. Of course, there are challenges.

You can tap your fingers to the bone, struggling with jobs which pay $5. Or less. If this happens, you’re too busy writing to focus on finding writing jobs which pay well.

Perhaps you’re aware that the best jobs aren’t advertised. But did you know that you can create your own?

Create your own writing jobs: get creative

Here’s the thing. No one, including business owners and marketing directors, thinks in terms of “writing” as essential to their business. Writing only matters to writers. People and companies have problems; they want fixes.

Often, they don’t see their own problems. Or they see a problem, but fail to consider that a writer could help.

Try using your phone to take photos when you’re out and about:

Perhaps you’ve taken your car into a large vehicle repair business… While you’re waiting, look at the waiting room. What advertising does the business display? Are there leaflets and cards for customers to take with them? (Take a quick photo of these.)

Chat with the receptionist, or with the person handling your car.

Everyone has a story, and everyone has challenges.

Later, study the photos. Check the website of businesses you visit. Getting ideas?

No one pays for writing. People pay for solutions.
