Have you dreamed of becoming a freelance writer?
Perhaps it’s time to take control and change your life, especially if you’re stuck at home, bored, and feel as if you “have nothing to do.”
You’ll have plenty to do when you enroll in our personal coaching program, Freelance Power.
As a freelance writer, you:
- Control your time;
- Choose your income and clients;
- Will use all the creativity, knowledge and experience you’ve gained in your life, whether you’re in your 20s or in your 60s.
Freelance writer: from zero to hero
I’ve been coaching writers since the 1990s. In 2002, I began offering writing programs. Freelance Power is the program I wish had been available when I started writing. I could have saved 10 to 15 years of struggle.
It took at least 15 years until I developed the proper freelance mindset. You can develop it in 12 weeks—even if you’re a complete newbie to professional writing.
On the other hand, you may be writing already, but you’re unhappy with your income and clients. You feel that you could be much more successful if only you knew how.
Established freelance writer? The best writing jobs aren’t advertised
As I said in this article on business blogging:
Keep in mind: the best writing jobs are not advertised. Primarily because they don’t exist.
I’m sure you’re wondering what I mean: how can you magic jobs out of thin air? 🙂
Consider your ideal client. He’s busy. He runs a business; or handles the marketing for a large company. A dozen times a day, he thinks: I need to get someone to do that, or I wish we could find someone to…
He doesn’t have the time to post a job on one of the freelance marketplaces.
Where will he find the time to:
- Create the brief (job description); and
- Screen applicants?
Even if he did find the time, at the end of the process, he has to be confident that the person he hires can do the job.
Finding good writers isn’t easy. It’s always a challenge
I wince when a writer who’s making $10 an hour says to me, my clients won’t pay more.
No, they won’t pay more. His clients have a $10-an-hour budget to hire a writer. They can’t pay more.
The writer doesn’t know that there’s an entire world of clients who’d happily pay him $100 and more an hour: if they knew he existed and had the time to find him.
Great clients are waiting for YOU
My students are shocked when I promise them that the gigs which pay over $100 are easier to get than low-fee gigs. Here’s why: there’s less competition.
When you approach clients, provided only that you do it professionally, you will get more gigs, more easily, than you expect.
Back in the day, when I wrote for magazines, I never minded how many queries I had to send to an editor before he hired me to write for the magazine. Here’s why: I looked on every query I sent as an audition.
Yep. An audition.
Similarly when you approach clients. Done the right way, every approach you make to a prospective client is an audition.
Recall we said that your ideal client has to be confident that the person he hires can do the job?
Your “auditions” will give your prospective client confidence in you. After multiple interactions with you, he “knows” you, and has the confidence to pay you well.
You’ll find many more strategies which will help you to build a brilliant freelance career in Freelance Power.
